Responsibilities:
Description:
The Systems Engineer provides administration for the company’s information systems infrastructure: servers, SANs, systems (email, directory services, hardware and software tracking, and intranet). This position requires the ability to effectively multitask and handle multiple projects at the same time. Strong analytical skills are required as well as the ability to think outside of the box to find solutions for issues that arise.
Job Purpose:
The Systems Engineer is responsible for deploying and supporting the company’s information systems with a specific focus on infrastructure.
Qualifications:
Duties:
* Establishes information systems by planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of PC and server hardware, software, and operating and system management systems; defining system and operational policies and procedures.
* Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, applying patches, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems; escalating application problems to vendor.
* Supports other Information Services staff in resolving technical support and network issues.
* Secures information systems by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation as well as completing back-ups.
* Upgrades information systems by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
* Works with business units to select, implement, and maintain systems relevant to the operations of the company
* Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
* Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs and records.
Skills & Knowledge:
The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience with supporting systems, industry certifications are a plus.
* Bachelor's Degree within discipline
* Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (certification is encouraged)
* Microsoft Exchange (2010 preferred)
* Microsoft Active Directory (based on Server 2008)
* VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V
* SANs (NetApp and EMC preferred)
* An understanding of networking
* Experience with scripting a plus
* Experience with Microsoft SQL or MySQL
* Linux administration a plus
* Ability to communicate with all levels of an organization
* Self-starter
* Work effectively and independently on multiple complex activities and projects
